D family birth photography

I must be drawn to women who do not labor for long!  This super-mamma delivered her son IN triage!  They didnt even have time to move her to a room!  Luckily, she was the only one in triage, so it wasnt an issue!  The raw, painful beauty that these images inspire seriously make me want to cry.  I feel so lucky to be a part of every one of these mothers birth stories, and this one was no exception!

Well, this was one birth that was not expected to be a c-section!  But I love going into c-sections because I suddenly feel like I'm in an episode of Greys Anatomy (I love that show!).  This was such an amazing session!  Mom and dad were such champs, and the doctors were so great!  Seriously, Dr. Harter is among the best!

Z Family Birth Photos

I loved this birth session!  The only thing that could have made it better is if I had actually made it in time for the birth!  I ran in no more than 3 minutes after she was born!  Mamma was so fast she delivered about 30 minutes after arriving to the hospital, which coincidentally is how long it takes to get to the hospital from where I live!  lol.  I swear, sometimes I seriously just consider living with the family in the week leading up to their due date!  haha!  I seriously get chills whenever I look at these pictures!  I LOVE what I do!  *side note.  I do compress my images to avoid copywrite infringment.  Its sad that is our first concern and that we have to take steps to avoid it, but if you notice that the images lack sharp detail when zooming in, that is why.*

This is one of my favorites!

Look at this little baby bird!  She is just so beautiful, and this picture just cracks me up!  FEED ME!

M family C-Section Birth Photography

This is one of my favorite shoots!  It was my first C-Section, and I just couldnt be happier with the results!

I love this next photo because this was as they were pulling the baby out and you could hear the baby starting to cry.  The glistening tear of all that overflowing emotion just makes this photo perfect in my eyes!

P family hospital preview

So this sweet family has the best story, and I wont tell all of it, but I'll sum it up.  I had been asked to take photographs of the birth, and when mamma C went into labor, they called me and told me they would let me know when they were on their way to the hospital (they were going to labor at home as long as possible).  Knowing labors can be known to last all night long, I went to bed, with my phone right next to my head.  In the morning, I woke up when I received a message from mamma C.  She was letting me know that all was well, and that she was sorry, but she ended up accidentally having the baby at home, delivered by Dr. Dad!  Hearing her tell the story brought tears to my eyes, but, in the end, we ended up doing a after birth hospital session.

First Post. Little baby "N"s birth photography

Eventually I'll figure this website and blog stuff out.  So here we are at the beginning.  I'm sure this will evolve as we go along, so stick with me as I learn and grow online.  For now, we'll keep things simple!  lol.  And now for our first blog post, in 3, 2,1...

When I was in high school.  I thought I'd be a nurse.  But not just any nurse.  A Labor and Delivery nurse.  Then I found out that most of the time you have to pay your dues at the bottom of the totem pole changing bed pans for a while, so I gave up on that dream really quickly.  My love of photography won out.  When I discovered that photographing births was a thing, that just seemed like the ultimate winning combination.  How can you go wrong?!?  This beautiful mamma and her family were so sweet to let me document this special day, the birth of their second child, a son.  I, to this day, have never seen so much love and support in one room.  Not to mention, little miss mamma was flawless!  I only wish I could look that collected and polished the next time I give birth!

So, what IS birth photography?  I get that a lot.  Birth photography documents the moments and interactions that make the birth of a child so special.  It's not meant to be invasive, or uncomfortable in any way.  In fact, the photographer mostly fades into the background quietly capturing those moments you will hold so dear so that you can look back and relive them over and over.  This is especially important when you think about the fact that mom and dad's focus can usually be directed in a different direction, so having these photos helps them to view the experience from a different perspective.

Most people who I talk to about this are very wary about WHAT will be photographed.  Your private areas are not photographed.  This is meant to be a modest, classy and beautiful way to document your day.  I aim to provide photos you'd feel comfortable showing your friends and family.  So rest assured, that is something you will not have to worry about.  And now, for the photos...
